"Traced through from the topographic lines of the map, heads or rather figures have been created and cut in lino blocks. These images have been then printed back over the map from which the figures were taken. The figures are 'named' with terms from a map. All the terms run in alphabetical order. One is left with a sense that the maps, and also the places depicted, are not neutral places but places possessed by previously unrecognised identities or characters, perhaps even monsters." Peter Malutzki
Text extracts included, one from Günter Eich, 'Eine Karte im Altas' and the other from Jorge Luis Borges, 'Von der Strenge der Wissenschaft'. |
