A compendium of contemporary fine prints, artists' books, broadsides, portfolios and book objects. (Bilingual in German and English) "In the course of the work on this edition, I've learned a few things which might be of interest to you. For instance, it is clear that in countries which are not so closely connected to the Gutenberg printing legacy there is a different understanding of book art. The first timid contacts with book artists from Arab countries awaken associations with the fairy tale world of 1001 Nights. 'Open sesame' and book art of another culture becomes visible—illegible, for me, mysterious and yet somehow familiar. In Asian countries calligraphy dominates book art and paper is much more that a material in the service of the print. Works of book art which originate there have a multitude of functions which we are unaccustomed to and they hide secrets which seem to fascinate us."
