"It could be Dresden or Hiroshima, Hanoi, Beirut, Baghdad or Kandohar. Two comrades wander through a desolate landscape. They seldom look ahead. Around them is only scorched earth. They walk slowly between destroyed buildings. They gaze at the dead, occasionally recognizing a companion.
One of them carries a book. It could be a road directory. a large dictionary, an atlas or perhaps a holy text. The two companions cling to this book, and sometimes, at moments of rest they record a memory, a reflection, a feeling, the name of a dead companion or draw on bits of paper they find among the ashes and slip them between the pages of this book. Sometimes think they’ve seen all these things before." Peter Lyssiotis
