Six issues of this journal were published between 1952-55. This journal was produced as a defiant gesture to the critics, who had tried to crush Max Harris in the aftermath of the revelation of the Ern Malley hoax which Harris had fallen for in the 1940s, publishing the Malley poems in the Angry Penguin journal.
In this Vol.1, No.1 November 1952, the editors introduce the journal, "Six years ago Ern Malley lived and died in Australia. Child of the unintended creative act of two other Australian poets he became overnight the most significant figure in the current literary scene... And now, we hope, his spirit will live on in the pages of this journal." |
