| "Ed Ruscha is best known for his painted works, but has produced a number of well received photo books as well. 'Nine Swimming Pools and a Broken Glass', his eighth book and the first in color, is indicative of his background in pop art with it's bold, graphic photographs on swimming pools in Los Angeles. The large, flat areas of blue invite the viewer to inspect the formal qualities of the composition rather than a specific subject. The nine photos of serene water are punctuated by a dark, moody photo of a broken glass, inviting a sense of danger and caution to the otherwise peaceful looking LA landscapes."
