| In Autumn of 1907, Fritz Wärndorfer, the director of the Wiener Werkstätte, gave Oskar Kokoschka the task of producing illustrations for a children's book. However Kokoschka did not stick to the original task. Instead he created pictures to his own free form poetry. In Spring 1908 the work was printed. The book did not sell and the Wiener Werkstätte only bound 225 copies. The remaining copies of which this is one were bought in 1917 by the Munich based publisher Kurt Wolff, who bound them, numbered and sold them. | |
