"'Der Garten' (The Garden) is part of a larger project on the theme Happiness which was begun in 2014. After two books ('Don't piss on the parade', 2014 and 'Swag', 2015) which focussed on the representation of happiness in advertisements and magazines, we became interested in a less caricature-like happiness, a happiness of a more fragile and fleeting nature." (Frédéric Guille)
The beginning point of 'Der Garten' was a photo found at a flea market, taken in the 1980s in West-Berlin of a group of smiling people sitting around a table in an open air cafe enjoying life. The image has been enlarged, fragmented, cut into wood and screen printed. A sense of transience, shifting focus and jolting movement results from this re-production of a single frozen moment. A collaborative work made by the members at the Kollektiv Tod Workshop. |
