"Over 16 workshops the women have produced collograph prints that embody the marks the Home has left on them, both physically and mentally, and transformed these into an edition of books and prints. Each print incorporates traces of scratchings left by the young girls on surfaces in the institution and excerpts from the files of the state welfare records kept on them, files that until recently were largely inaccessible to former residents." Lily Hibberd (extract from the introduction to the exhibition of the project) The 12 Parragirls with whom Gwen Harrison and Sue Anderson worked are: Bonney Djuric, Lesley Dowton, Ivy Getchell, Gypsie Hayes, Matilda House, Jenny McNally, Sandie Jessamine, Beryl Lloyd, Marg Noble, Lorraine Perry, Toni Marshall, Lynne Edmondson Paskovski and Mershelle Evans Williams. The 'Living Traces' project is part of the bigger Parragirls Female Factory Precinct MEMORY PROJECT initiated and curated by Bonny Djuric. This book was featured in the exhibition, 'The Politics of Place.' January 19 – March 30, 2019 at the Center for Book Arts, New York, NY. |
