"Dear Editor,
Ref. Max Harris and 'translation'. No. 13 I have maintained his thesis for years, and as I picked up most of what I know about letters at the home of lost causes, have spent some time in essays at the impossible-specimen enclosed. The whole intention of the poem is in the word 'TRAITRES' which is like a sapphire in a string of glass beads, or a mills bomb in a basket of fruit—I have put a time fuse on mine which explodes for the last line. I found the printed poem Baudelaire's (enclosed) in a Modern Language Broadcast of the A.B.C. —tho' how they got hold of it heaven only knows—putting this wild wood violet among three forkfuls of muck from poor Guy's steaming dunghill! ('both adults and children' vide their Foreword) I have several more of these 'essays' in my day-book. Hold the fort, Lady Tom Dimes" (from letters to the editor) Also includes contributions from Lola van Gooch, Francis Brabazon, Mary Williams, E Galloway, Brian Crozier, Frank Kellaway, M. Swinburne, James Pickering, Brian Vrepont. |
